Welcome to Root & Build!

This ministry didn’t begin with a business plan or a perfectly polished blog. It started in the everyday trenches of motherhood, faith, and a whole lot of prayer.

For years, I did my best to raise my children to love Jesus. But as some grew older, I saw something that broke my heart: they knew about God, but they hadn’t fully internalized what it meant to walk with Him every single day. I carried the heavy weight of that realization—what did I miss? What could I have done differently? That “mom guilt” ran deep. And after wrestling with it, God gave me a clear answer: Be the person you needed back then. The seed of Root & Build was planted.

Then came a Sunday that confirmed it. I asked the kids in my class to find a verse in their Bibles, and only two knew how. They could recite Scripture, sure—but they couldn’t locate it, couldn’t verify it, couldn’t defend it. I looked into their sweet faces and knew the world would not go easy on them. They needed to be rooted in Biblical truth. They needed to be equipped. And I couldn’t keep waiting for someone else to do it.

I began weaving Bible literacy into every lesson I taught—Sunday School, AWANA, co-op classes. No more just watching videos or coloring summaries. We opened Bibles. We looked up verses. We asked questions. We made crafts and did experiments and got our hands messy with learning. And y’all… the kids lit up. They remembered the activities. They asked to do them again. They started owning their faith. And so did I.

But even then, I was torn. I loved my job as a professional LEGO model builder (yes, really!). I had tried blogging before—during our family’s time of homelessness, during the pandemic, while homeschooling teenagers—but it never quite landed. There was always too much life going on.

Then one day, the shop where I worked closed. Just like that. And instead of panic, I felt peace. God whispered, Now is the time. Build what I’ve been preparing you for. And so, Root & Build was born—not just a blog, not just a business, but a full-time ministry.

The name came as naturally as breathing: I love to garden. I build things (with LEGO and with little hearts). Jesus is my anchor and my cornerstone. Colossians 2:7 leapt off the page:
“Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him.”
It was the confirmation I needed. This is what I was created for.

Root & Build is here to link arms with parents, especially the ones who feel like I did—overwhelmed, unsure, maybe even a little alone in this calling. We make it fun. We make it doable. And we never let go of the Truth.

Because our children don’t just need to know God’s Word—they need to live it, love it, and be able to find it for themselves when the world tries to twist it. And they need parents who feel confident in teaching it—even if they’re learning right alongside their little ones.

So here I am, Lord. Send me. I’ll go. And I’ll bring glitter, glue, and the Gospel with me.
